Subject: chamber of secrets
Mood: stupid Music: Dave Matthews' Band "Satellite"
I just finished reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire today, and picked up Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban to start on tonight. When I finished reading the first book, (which is actually the fourth in the series - I'm reading them backward), she made some comment about it being a big waste of time. She can read cheese and say that? Deal. It's called free-reading time, so I'm free to read whatever the heck I want.
I really like what that series is doing. When I saw the first movie, I was under the impression that the series was about a boy who was treated horribly by the aunt and uncle who raised him, and this boy eventually got out to be with his own kind - i.e. wizards - and now life's great, because he's a legend in this new world, he's got friends, and everybody loves him.
Wrong. The wizarding world is more realistic than that. Although Harry's life is better at Hogwarts, he's got enemies, and evil is afoot. The pureblood/Nazi undertone is intriguing. This series doesn't just swoop readers into some little fantasy world but, on another sphere, allows them to step back and look at things with a more objective eye.
All the references to the third book that I found in the fourth made me decide to continue with reading the books backwards. I started with book four, because it was only ten bucks.
So... um... yeah. Gonna go read now.
