Subject: internship

Mood: off-kilter
Music: Flying Blind's "Smokescreen"

I woke up on the phone this morning. I found myself in the middle of a conversation with the director of the guidance department at Georgetown High School. Apparently, they want me. They haven't had an intern in a while, I'm the only one to apply this year, and they seem to want to make this work. So, if that means ditching Lowell, I'm all for it! I'm just hoping I can put a little fire under them to hurry up with the paperwork so I can get this thing all settled. I'm really sick of the whole process.

Kinda cool to be wanted.

I'm still overwhelmed, and now I'm upset on top of that. There are a few reasons why things are off-kilter. Of course, I've talked about the internship/practicum garbage. Then there's finals. THEN, I got a bad review. Someone basically scolded me for writing "Taps" because it was too realistic. She says it's serious like I don't know it is. What, I'm not allowed to write a serious story? Fatality is a sobering reality in NASCAR; I know that. The image of this particular crash, the one I wrote about in my fic, came to mind, so I had to get it down on paper. I was expressing pent-up angst, which other fans might feel from time to time. The girl or guy was cowardly anyway; s/he didn't log in or leave an email address. So there's no way of contacting him or her and discussing it.

On top of that, there's this Elliott Sadler rumour floating around. It's confirmed that he's asking out of his contract with Woods Brothers racing at the end of the season, but it's still up in the air where he's going after that. There's talk about him going over to DEI. The VP of DEI said that there's nothing final, but in the next month, they have to make some decisions that will affect the future of DEI, and they've already talked to "other drivers" about it. What other drivers? I can only assume they mean DEI drivers, which makes me wonder... what do they need to talk to them about? There's a possibility that, in order to sign on Sadler, they'll be dumping one of their current drivers. No way in a million years would that driver be Junior! He's got the Earnhardt name, he's doing really well on the track, and he's very popular. That leaves Steve Park... and Mikey. Steve just got back from an injury; would they really just dump him right away? And Mikey... they CAN'T get rid of him!!! Come on! He won the 2001 Daytona 500, he and Junior rule at restrictor plate races together (how 'bout them 1 - 2 DEI finishs?), and Dale Earnhardt, Sr., wanted him on DEI! Dale Earnhardt himself hand-selected his team. Are they really going to unravel that just a year after his death? He had faith in these particular drivers. DEI should hold onto them at least long enough for the rest of the world to see what Dale Earnhardt saw in them when he hired them.

Mikey's higher up in Winston Cup points than Elliott is as well. Mikey's 16th! He's getting progressively better! They'd be foolish to drop him now!

I have to go to school to get some junk done, and this all still weighs heavily on my mind.
