Mikey 35th at Kansas by Kellyanne Lynch
28 September 2008
Michael Waltrip was running in the top 20th when David Ragan wrecked him. The #55 Napa Auto Parts Camry also got a flat tire with twelve laps to go. Mikey finished 35th and three laps down. His driver David Reutimann was 19th and one lap down while Michael McDowell did not make the race.
"Check 1, 2, 3. Got a copy there, Bobby?" someone came on the #55 radio at 2:07pm ET.
As cars rolled of pit road, Jeff Burton remained behind as his crew changed the tactometre in his #31 car.
Roland noted the pace car was at pit road speed. "Get a good tact reading."
"Okay, should be looking at second gear, 4250, 4250 second gear," Bobby said.
"We gotta work on this side mirror. It's useless, the way we have them positioned on these cars. Kyle Busch's is hanging outside his A-piller, and this is what we need to see," Mikey commented. "We might as well not have it on there. I just usually don't cut people off, but if I could see, I might. I might start thinking about it. The way this roll bar's bent."
"10-4, Auto," Bobby replied.
"I'll go with 4250, but the most I've seen on this whole deal is 4150."
"10-4."
"It will be one to go at the line," said the spotter.
The crew chief noted pit boxes were on pit road were as follows: 6, 7, 66, 55, 45, 1. He told the spotter where to guide in the driver.
"10-4. Let me just tell you ten away at the cone. That's about the same distance."
"10-4. Why don't you just tell me from the cone." Bobby told Mikey to work in his tires and to have a good day. "Heads up here on pit road."
"There's something wrong with your radio. I didn't hear a word you just said," Mikey replied. "All I heard was static and something about pit road."
"Have some fun, have a good race."
"Gotcha. Roger."
"Pace car's in. Green flag, green flag. Clear up ahead, one outside," Roland said. "Still one outside from behind, one outside. Two outside. Clear one, one outside. One outside, lot of room. One outside."
Jimmie Johnson led the field to the green flag with Mikey in 29th and David 40th. Clint Bowyer was black flagged for passing before the stripe.
"Still one outside. Clear if you want it. Clear by half a car length. All clear."
Mikey was 26th and David was 36th by lap 3.
"One inside, inside," Roland warned. "Still one inside from behind, one inside. Still there by a fender, one inside. Clear all around."
By lap 5, Mikey was 28th. He picked up a spot one lap later.
"Outside from behind. Still there by a fender, still outside. One inside. Clear high. One inside. Clear high. Clear all around. Still outside. 11 car outside. One inside, one outside. 29's inside. Clear low, one outside."
Mikey was 30th by lap 8, while David was back to 37th.
"Clear, all clear."
"54.15," Bobby read off lap times.
"Looking inside, one inside. Two inside, two inside. Clear. One inside, the 29. You're pulling him. Clear, clear by one. Clear low. Clear all around."
On lap 11, Mikey passed David Gilliland but was passed by Kevin Harvick. He remained 30th.
"Inside. Still one inside. You're pulling him. Clear, clear by one."
David was 36th by lap 12.
"34.50, leader 33.80," Bobby read off lap times. "40. Leader a 10."
"Still there. Still there. Still outside. Clear behind him. Clear high. Clear, all clear."
David was 35th on lap 14.
"Inside, by a fender. Still inside. Clear all around."
"39, 39. Leader 10.
"40."
"Still inside. Still there. Clear, all clear."
Mikey was up to 28th on lap 17.
"Still there," Roland added as Matt Kenseth took the lead going into lap 18. "Still there. All clear. Good job, man! That thing looks good up here."
"Same as the leader that lap," Bobby said.
Mikey was 27th on lap 18 as Kenseth led. He was 26th one lap later, having passed Sam Hornish Jr.
"Clear, all clear."
"50, 50. Leader a 20."
Mikey passed Tony Stewart's #20 on lap 20 for 25th.
"Clear," said Roland.
"35, 35."
"Let me know about your car when you get a chance, and those temps," Bobby requested.
"Just past 11 and 2. Balance is okay," Mikey replied.
"Clear all around."
"10-4, 10-4. Copy," Bobby acknowledged.
On lap 23, Mikey was 23rd.
"Still there. Clear, all clear. Still inside. You're pulling him. Clear all around."
Mikey was 22nd on lap 24, having passed Kyle Busch. The engine in Busch's #18 was failing.
"Clear."
"45, leader a 30."
"Inside, 29 inside," Roland observed.
Harvick passed on lap 26, dropping Mikey back to 23rd.
"Clear all around. Still outside. Clear."
On lap 27, Mikey picked up 22nd again by getting around Dave Blaney.
"Halfway on the fuel run, halfway. 65, 65. Leader a 40," Bobby noted. "45, 45. Same as the leader. Good lap.
"55, 55. Same as the leader."
Mikey got around Harvick on lap 31 for 21st.
"Still inside," Roland warned. "Still there. Clear. All clear."
"90."
"Inside, one inside," Roland spotted. "Clear all around."
David was 36th on lap 33.
"Looking inside, the 29 inside. All clear."
"95."
"There you go! Get that rhythm. They'll come right back to you."
"75, 75. Leader a 65."
David was back up to 35th on lap 34 as Mikey was still 21st.
"65, 65."
David was 34th on lap 37.
"75."
"Inside. Clear, all clear."
"75."
Scott Riggs passed on lap 38, moving Mikey back to 22nd.
"Clear high. One inside. 66 inside. All clear."
"The right front's going off," Mikey reported.
"10-4, 10-4."
David dropped to 35th on lap 41. He was back up to 34th a couple laps later.
"65, 65. Good lap," said Bobby.
"Inside, 29 inside," Roland warned.
"Stay with it. We're about ten away from pitting, ten away. I'll make an air pressure adjustment, get air in those tires," Bobby encouraged his driver.
Mikey was 23rd on lap 43 after Harvick passed. The lap before that, Martin Truex Jr took the lead.
"Be on your toes here, Roland. They're going to the pits here in a couple laps. 35 flat, 35 flat. Leader a 70.
"34.70, 34.70."
David was 35th on lap 47.
"65, 65. Good lap right there.
"74, 74. Good lap!
"75, 75."
A few front runners pit on lap 50. Mikey was now 18th, and David was 27th. Mikey was 10th the next time around the track as cars continued to make stops.
Mikey led lap 52 as stops continued.
"Next time by, next time by," Bobby said. "You were the leader that lap. All right, next time by. 4250, one green." He said he'd make an air pressure adjustment.
"All clear from behind. 4200."
Ron and Bobby led Mikey to his box.
Kyle Busch led lap 53 before making his stop. Stops had cycled, and Kenseth was the leader on lap 54. Meanwhile, Roland blended Mikey back into traffic.
"All clear. Nice job!" Roland praised.
"Leader at the line now, running 65."
Mikey was 21st on lap 58 while David ran 32nd and lapped.
"34 flat, leader 33.90.
"34 flat, same as the leader.
"34 flat, same as the leader.
"34.10. 34.10. Same as the leader."
"Still there by a fender. Still there. Clear, all clear."
Mikey picked up 20th from Bobby Labonte on lap 62.
"35, 35. Leader 15.
"35, 35. Leader 40.
"25, 25. Leader 35."
"Good job. You picked up a tenth going up top," said the spotter. "Still there. Clear, all clear. That 19th's for position in front of you. 19th."
"35. Leader 45.
"30, 30.
"25. Leader a 50. Good lap. Second fastest car that lap, second fastest.
"45. Leader a 55.
"40, same as the leader. Leader at the line now."
"Still there. Clear."
Mikey picked up 19th from Scott Riggs on lap 70. David was 31st.
"30, 30. Good lap.
"35. Leader 45.
"35. Leader 45.
"30, 30. Leader 40."
"Still outside. Still there. Still there by a fender. Back outside," Roland noted. "Still there. Got a run on you. Clear behind him. Clear."
The first caution was on lap 75. Ryan Newman had gone too high going into the turn when trying to pass Mikey. Bowyer received the free pass.
"Clear, clear. He got in the wall. All clear."
Mikey said something in static.
"Caution is out. You're all clear from behind."
"What'd you say there, bud?" Bobby asked.
"I said, that's what he gets for being a dickhead," Mikey replied.
"You're 18th, man. Good job."
Bobby asked about the car.
"It's pretty balanced there."
"10-4. We'll put four on you here. No changes," Bobby said. He told his driver he'd have a clear shot in. "All right, get to pit road here. 4250, 4250. One green. You'll come around the 6 car, around the 6 car. You'll be two past him."
"Open this time, this time," Roland said. He warned Mikey the #42 of Montoya was way down when coming in.
Mikey pit with the field under yellow.
"Go go go. All the way out, all the way out. 4250."
Roland reiterated this.
Kenseth was the first driver off pit road. Coming off pit road, Dave Blaney shot into three-wide traffic and bounced off a few cars.
"There you go. All clear. Good stop, guys!" Roland praised. "Picked up a few. Looks like you'll be p16."
"Tires look good, tires look good. I don't know if you caught it, but we led that lap before pitting that last time."
Mikey's response came with static.
"One to go at the line. Watch your inside," Roland noted. "Coming up the inside."
"All right, tighten your belts. Coming to the green."
"It was about eight to ten laps, when you went to the top, if you need me or Bobby to remind you."
"No, I don't think I need reminding of that," Mikey replied.
Due to a loose lugnut, Kenseth was penalised. He lost the lead on the restart. Casey Mears instead led the field when racing resumed on lap 80. Mikey was 15th, and David was 32nd and lapped.
"One inside. Clear high. One inside. Clear high. One inside. Clear. Clear high," Roland said. "Still there. Still inside. Clear. Clear behind the 6 if you need it. Clear by one. Clear behind the 6 if you need it. Clear by three. Still there. Still outside. One outside. Still there. Still outside. All clear if you need it. All clear by one. Still there. Got a run on you. Still outside. All clear if you need it. Clear all around. Still there. Clear, all clear. Clear by one. Still outside, still there."
Mikey was racing Joey Logano, who was lapped.
"Clear, all clear. Looking inside. 31 inside. Clear all around."
Mikey was 16th on lap 89 when Jeff Burton passed.
"Looser on this set," Mikey said. Bobby had him repeat it as he didn't hear it.
"77 spinning up ahead. Clear, all clear. No caution," Roland observed. "Inside. 20 car inside. Clear, all clear."
Mikey was 17th on lap 91 when Tony Stewart passed.
"Clear all around. Inside, 17 inside."
Mikey was 18th on lap 92. David was 31st.
"Inside, the 07. Inside. Clear all around from behind, all clear."
"I'm a little loose."
"10-4, 10-4," Bobby said he'd tighten up the car.
The second caution was on lap 94 when Kyle Petty spun through the grass. Kyle Busch received the free pass.
"Caution is out. You're all clear. Caution is out. You're all clear for debris," Roland said.
The crew chief called for three-tenths out of the right rear. "You're mainly loose centre off? Is that your deal?"
"Yes."
Bobby said they'd do four tires and Mikey would have a clear shot in as Riggs' #66 was behind the wall with a drive shaft issue.
Mears stayed on track while everyone else on the lead lap pit.
"Around the 6. 4, 3, 2. Right here. Wheels straight, put on the brakes," Bobby guided. "Go go go. All the way, all the way. 4250."
"All clear to the grass. 4250," Roland added.
"That's awesome. Y'all did a great job. Oh shit, I might have been a little bit fast. I hope not," Mikey said. "31 might have gotten two."
"10-4. We'll watch him, see what they got," Bobby replied.
"I believe those top three got two tires, Bobby," Roland said.
"10-4. Thanks."
"Coming up to your inside."
Mears led the lap 99 restart. Mikey was 18th, and David was 30th and the first driver one lap down.
"Clear all around. Clear up ahead," said Roland. "Clear high. Clear, all clear."
On lap 101, he passed Montoya for 17th.
"Still there. 42's still there. Clear low. Clear all around, high or low. Still there. Clear, clear. Clear by one. Outside on your corner, the 99. Outside. Clear behind him. Clear all around. 42 outside, one outside. Clear. Inside, the 6 inside."
Mikey was 18th on lap 104 when Carl Edwards passed.
"Still there. One inside, one inside."
"Y'all got to work on this thing, or I'm going to crash," Mikey said. He was 20th on lap 105.
"10-4," Bobby replied.
"Inside, one inside. 11 car still inside. Still one inside."
Mikey was now 21st. Meanwhile, David was at the tail end of the lead lap, having passed leader Mears.
"Clear. Still inside. Clear all clear. Inside, 18 inside. Clear by one."
On lap 106, Mikey was 22nd. Two laps later, Johnson took the lead.
"Clear, clear. Clear by one," Roland said. "All clear."
"Stay with it, bud. I'll get some wedge in it on your next stop," Bobby told his driver.
"I need a little help," Mikey said.
"10-4, 10-4. 35, 35."
"Clear high. Still inside. Clear all around. Still outside. Clear behind the 96. Clear. Clear."
"40, 40.
"35, 35."
The third caution was on lap 117 after Logano hit the wall. Patrick Carpantier got the free pass, and David had raced his way back on.
"Caution is out. Car behind you got in the wall. All clear."
"All right, did it tighten up
"It was getting pretty good at the end, but it's still loose if I try to get aggressive. So same air. I like that air. Probably need to work on it otherwise."
Bobby talked about putting in four tenths of wedge. He then said one round of wedge out. "Someone's going to have to teach ___?___ some respect."
"Yeah, he's the one who got in the wall," Roland replied.
Bobby told Mikey to go around the 6 car to pit. He led his driver to the box.
"Go go go. All the way. 4250."
"All clear, all clear to the grass. It'll be one to go at the line."
Stewart was penalised for speeding off pit road.
"Coming up the inside," Roland warned.
Martin Truex Jr led the restart on lap 122. Mikey was 19th, and David was 25th.
"Clear all around, clear up ahead," said the spotter. "Still all clear. Clear up ahead. Spin up ahead. Back it down, back it down. It's all clear ahead. Just back it down. He's on the apron."
"All right. Flat spot your tires or anything?" Bobby asked.
"No," Mikey sighed. "I didn't."
"10-4."
"This thing is just a handful for a few laps."
The fourth caution was on lap 124 when Kenseth came down on Mears' nose and spun out. Mears blamed himself.
"Staying out, staying out," said Bobby. "Ah, working lap 125 right now, lap 125. P18, P18."
"Here you go. Green this time. Pace car's in. Green flag, green flag. Clear all around, clear up ahead."
Martin Truex Jr led the lap 127 restart with Mikey in 18th and David 24th.
"I don't think my motor runs right," Mikey said.
"10-4."
David was 25th one lap into the run. He was 26th on lap 129.
"All clear up ahead," Roland said. "Clear all around."
Tony Stewart went through the grass, drawing the fifth caution on lap 130. He had hit Vickers and spun himself out.
"Spin behind you. Going through the grass. No caution. Caution's out. 84's still outside, still outside," Roland warned. "I'll have to ask, Bobby, about the 84."
Bobby called to stay out.
"84, 55," the crew chief said after a pause. He said again they'd stay out. "All right, clean your tires off."
"All right, coming to the green," Roland told his driver. "Pace car's in. Green flag, green flag. Clear all around, clear up ahead."
Truex Jr led the lap 134 restart. Mikey was 18th, and David was 32nd.
David dropped to 33rd one lap into the run. He was the last driver on the lead lap. Lap 136 saw him pick up 31st.
"54.38, fastest lap of the race for you."
Montoya passed on lap 138, moving Mikey back to 19th.
"Still outside by a fender, still outside. Clear. Clear behind the 7, clear."
Mikey was 17th on lap 138, having passed Kasey Kahne. David 29th the next time around the track.
"Inside, the 9 car. Inside. One inside," Roland warned. "Back inside. Still one inside from behind. The 17 inside. Clear all around."
By lap 141, Johnson was back in the top spot. Mikey was 20th after Kahne's pass.
"Inside."
"We've screwed this car up," Mikey complained.
"Still inside. Still there. One inside. The 83 inside by a fender. Still inside."
Mikey was 21st on lap 142 after Vickers passed.
"Two cars inside. All clear. Inside by a fender. One inside. Clear all around."
"Loose in, tight off, major difference in those adjustments," Mikey said.
"10-4. That was one round of wedge. I'll take it back out," Bobby replied.
"I get tired of hearing that. I know that out here."
"10-4."
"Inside, one inside. Still inside. He's got new tires. A couple of them do. Inside. Clear."
Mikey was 22nd by lap 146; Bobby Labonte had passed. David was 27th.
"Back inside. Lot of room. Inside. Clear. Inside. Two inside. Just one inside, the 42. Inside."
On lap 148, Mikey was 23rd.
"Two inside. Back to one. One inside. Clear, clear by one. Clear all around."
David was 26th by lap 150.
"Clear high. Still there, still inside. Clear all around."
"65, 65."
On lap 151, David was 25th.
"63.
"63.
"64.
"50, 50.
"69, 69.
"85.
"80."
"Still there. Still there by a fender. All clear."
Mikey passed Labonte on lap 159 for 22nd.
"85, 85. Leader a 50.
"95, leader a 55.
"75, 75."
David was 24th by lap 164, having also passed Labonte.
"80, 80. Leader 40."
David was 23rd one lap later. Mikey passed Newman for 21st on lap 166.
"Still outside. All clear behind him." Newman had passed him back. "Still there. Clear. Inside. Clear."
David took 22nd from Mikey on lap 168.
"42 looking inside, inside," Roland warned. "Clear, all clear."
David picked up 21st from Newman on lap 169.
"All right, we're about five laps away from pitting. We'll take that wedge back out."
"Just make a quick pit stop, and don't worry about the wedge," Mikey replied. After a pause, he added, "Yeah, do worry about it. Put it back like it was."
"Inside, looking. Inside. Clear. Good corner. You pulled him right there. Inside. One more inside. All clear."
Mikey fell to 25th on lap 174. He was 24th one lap later, as David took 20th.
"Next time by, next time by," Bobby said, regarding a pit stop.
"Well, the spotter could have communicated to you. I hit the wall. Be prepared for that," Mikey said.
"All clear. 21 behind you's got a run. Outside. You're all clear from behind."
"4250. One green."
Mikey pit on lap 177 as Carl Edwards took the lead. Edwards led a lap before he made his stop.
"There you go. Halfway, halfway. All yours, Roland."
"All the way to the grass. 4250. All right, hammer down. I'll blend you in on the back. Only one car coming to speed. One car back. It's the 18 car. All clear by ten. All clear by eight. All clear."
David bounced up to 5th as stops cycled. He led lap 179 as stops continued to cycle. Carpentier led when David made his stops.
"When the pit stops cycle, that 48 behind you there is going to be the leader," Bobby noted.
"Still outside. Clear, clear."
"34.15."
"Outside, the 48 car. It's all clear behind him. 10's pitting up ahead here. All clear."
"33, 33."
Stops had cycled on lap 183. Johnson was the leader now. Mikey was 29th and the first driver one lap down. David was 26th.
"20, 34.20. Leader 33.90."
On lap 185, Mikey was 28th, and David was 25th.
"15, 15."
David picked up 24th on lap 186. Mikey was 27th.
"All clear. Second place behind you. All clear behind him."
"15, 15.
"15. Leader a flat."
"All clear."
"30.
"05, 05. Good lap."
Mikey and David picked up 23rd and 26th on lap 189.
"45, 45."
On lap 190, David was up to 21st, and Mikey was 25th.
Mikey said something that I missed here. He was 24th on lap 191.
"44."
"Still outside," Roland noted. "Still there. All clear. Clear clear."
"It's just pushing and loose so bad, I can't drive it," Mikey commented with 75 laps to go.
"Yeah, 10-4, 10-4," Bobby replied.
Stewart was on pit road with a splitter issue. Meanwhile, Carl Edwards was back in the lead.
"45's slowing up ahead. All clear."
"You just adjusted around the tires to put it where it's just terrible," Mikey stated. "I need lap times too, by the way."
"63, 3."
Mikey was 25th and David was 20th on lap 196.
"Outside, 11 outside. All clear behind him."
"79.
"79.
"55, 55."
"All clear. That's third place behind you. Clear all around. Inside. All clear behind him. All clear."
"90."
"Inside by a fender. Clear."
"65, 65."
"Something's wrong with the right front. You got it all blowed up," Mikey commented.
"10-4. 75, 75.
"75."
"Inside. Fourth place inside. All clear behind the 24."
"85.
"90."
David went a lap down around lap 200. He made small contact with Edwards as the #99 went by.
"Still there. Clear, clear."
"We're just sliding the right front. No grip on that thing, like before," Mikey said.
"Okay, 10-4, 10-4."
"Inside. Still inside. All clear behind that 31."
"I can't vary my lines if y'all don't tell me frickin' lap times," Mikey complained.
"95, 95."
"Inside, 07. Inside, in 6th place."
"85, 85."
"Clear all around."
"80, 80." Bobby asked if the car was better on entry.
"No, you've just got it sliding in the middle like a fish," Mikey replied.
"70, 70. A little better that lap."
"Inside. All clear. 66 has newer tires. Not a position."
"75, 75.
"80, 80."
David was 19th by lap 216 as Mikey continued in 25th.
"75, 75.
"90, 90."
The sixth caution was with fifty laps to go. Travis Kvapil had hit the wall. Vickers received the free pass.
"05, 05."
"All clear. Caution is out, caution is out."
"Just embarrassing there to have it so good and to mess it up so bad. It's just skating the rigth front out, and it won't turn. And it's got all the wheel in it. We just totally messed it up with the combination of tires and pressures and everything," Mikey said. "Now you've really got it so it can't go."
Bobby said they had put the car back to where it was at the start during the last stop and would take out more air.
"You need to address that right front."
"10-4, 10-4."
"Pit road's open this time. The leaders only."
"Next time by, it will be four tires, four tires," Bobby told the crew. "Go around the 66. Go around the 66."
"Ask him to wait a lap," Mikey suggested. "I gotcha. I'll go around him."
"10-4."
"Just pit it a little short. That 45 will be coming around. 4, 3, 2. Wheels straight, right here," Bobby guided Mikey to the box. "Go. All the way out, all the way."
"Clear clear. It will be one to go at the line."
"When it goes green, it will be 45 to go, 45 to go. You're 23 right now, p23. I'm showing 17 on the lead lap."
Johnson led the lap 223 restart. Mikey and David were 23rd and 21st, one lap down.
"Pace car's in. Green flag green flag. Clear up ahead, one outside. Still one outside. One outside. Clear if you need it. Back outside. Outside. One outside. Still there, one outside. One outside from behind. One outside."
Mikey was 24th on lap 225; David Gilliland had passed.
The seventh caution was on lap 226. David Ragan had hit Mikey when he was inside Hornish's #77.
"Outside. One outside. All clear. 6 jacked you up right there."
"All... I got all my pressures are good. Y'all can see the damage."
"All right, Roland, how's the right?" Bobby told the crew to get the stuff ready.
"Right side looks the same."
"Same as what?"
"The right side should be fine. It's just whatever happened to the left front."
"All right. Pit this time, pit this time. No fuel, no fuel, no fuel."
Mikey pit under the yellow. Bobby told Art and Shawn to go to the left front. "Full of shit. What you got there, Ron? All right, let's get some barribond on the hood. Let me know where the pace car is."
"Middle of the backstretch."
"Barribond on the hood, barribond on the hood."
Mikey left the box. A crew member said they needed to take a brace off the splitter and repair it; they needed to pit again.
"The most important thing is not to lose a lap here. If we can finish the last guy one down," Mikey said. He went back to the pits.
"All right, come to me. 4250. Let's make it quick, Ron."
"Middle of the backstretch. Come on."
"One to go, y'all," Mikey said.
Bobby told the crew to hurry as Roland said the car was in the middle of the backstretch. "Tail end of the longest line."
"Be one to go this time. Plenty of time."
"I don't see any smoke. Was the left front okay?" Mikey asked.
Bobby told Roland to look. "That's what we need to know."
"Saw a little smoke on the left front there," Roland said.
"Was it entering the turn, in the middle of the turn, on the straightaway? What?" Mikey asked.
Roland said it was in the middle of Turn 4.
A crew member talked about putting in a brace and cutting the fender off.
"Pace car's in. Green flag, green flag. Clear all around."
Johnson led the lap 230 restart. David was 21st. Mikey was 32nd. Both were lapped.
"No caution yet. I'll let you know. No caution," Roland said. Truex Jr went to pit road. Meanwhile, Ambrose hit the wall. "All clear, clear."
Mikey was 31st on lap 232. David was 20th.
"Clear from behind. All clear. Clear all around. Outside, one outside. Clear high. Clear all around. Still one outside, one outside. The 7. Still outside. All clear."
"Pick your spot and ride. All these guys are for position. The 2 car in front of you is your next spot. All these guys aren't for spots," Bobby said.
"Clear behind you. Clear all around. Inside looking. Inside. One inside, the 47. All clear from behind. All clear. Still there. Clear."
"34.40, 34.40."
"All clear. The 77 got in the wall a little bit, the yellow car. All clear. All clear from behind. Clear. Smoke is starting to go away. I can barely see it now."
"4.60. 29 to go, 29 to go."
"34..."
"Still there. Still inside. Clear."
"34.50," a crew member said.
"Inside. Clear all clear. Back inside."
On lap 243, David was up to 19th.
"Clear all around. Still inside. Clear all clear."
Mikey picked up 30th from Kurt Busch on lap 244.
"All clear. Next time for position is the 10, three cars up ahead."
"34.60," the crew member noted lap times again. "34.70."
"22 to go, 22 to go."
"34.60.
"34.65."
"Still there. Clear all clear."
"34.65."
"17 to go," Bobby returned to the radio. "60, same as the 10 car, same as the 10 car.
"80, 80. Same as the 10. Running 79.
"15 to go, 15 to go. 75. 90 on that 10 car.
"60. 90 on that 10 car. Hey, Roland, see if you can get us some help on that 47, if we can get to him."
"10-4. Working on it," the spotter replied.
With 12 to go, the #55's left front tire exploded. Debris scattered all over the track, but the race remained green.
"Still outside. We have a blew tire, Bobby. Blew a left front. No caution yet, no caution. Turns 3 and 4. They're talking about it."
"Pull the top of the left front fender. Get ready. Pick up on the left side. Get jacked up. Pick up! Cut away over top, Ron. Cut the top."
"Just pull it up! We don't have to make it that much further. Just pull it up!" Mikey directed.
He was cleared back on track after the stop. Mikey was now three laps down in 35th.
"All clear still. Outside, one outside. Still one outside. Clear behind the 22 by two car lengths. All clear. Slow car on the bottom. Clear low. 9 car coming outside, outside. Still outside from behind, the 42. All clear, clear by five."
"The 47 and the 7, they're at the line now," Bobby noted.
"Got one coming outside. Still clear by one. Outside. Clear by two. Outside. The 88's outside by himself. Clear behind him, all clear. Outside. Six of them single file. Outside. Clear by one. Coming outside. 21 will be the last car. He's outside now."
"Two to go, two to go. Clear behind that 41."
"White flag. One more."
"Clear by two to the 12 car. Outside. Outside, clear behind him. Clear by four. One outside. Coming to the checkered."
Mikey finished 35th as David came home 19th. Jimmie Johnson won the race after Carl Edwards had passed him going into Turn 3 of the last lap but then got into the wall.
