San paused and felt the wind rustle over her back. Reaching over her head, she grabbed hold of her mask and slid it over her face. She mounted Mouro's wolf cub's back, hugging his matted fur back, and listened to Nature's signals. The Kadama were silent, and San feared that.

Signaling Mouro's cub with a brush of her hand, San ventured further into the forst. Mouro's cub treaded soft over the dried leaves and wildflowers. His ears were pointed into the air, and they twitched as he stepped.

San held back a gasp when she saw a dark figure moving through the trees. A human figure! San despised human beings! She felt her hatred boiling within her breast. THIS human being would NOT get away from her grasp! She would slay this one!

San buried herself deeper into the cub's fur, and the cub hunkered down in the long grass. Only the crown of San's head and the wolf cub's ears could be seen peeking out above the grass. San held her breath and listened again. The figure was moving closer! She could hear the crinkling of leaves growing louder. Careless human! could he not hide his presence?

As the cub prepared to pounce, San gripped her knife in her palm. This one would not get away!

The cub sprang from the grass, through the air, onto the human. San gave a savage cry and sunk the knife blad into the human's side.

"San!" a weak voice protested. San raised the mask and stared into the eyes of Ashitaka, her friend.

"Ashitaka!" she exclaimed. "But... I did not know that it was you!"

"I should hope so," he replied. Groaning, he clutched his wounded side.

"I am sorry, Ashitaka," San cried. She placed a fur cape over the wound, the one that had been on her back.

"But your cape!"

"They will understand," she answered and lowered her head.

"San, waht if I had been one of the villiagers? Would you have killed me?"

San straightened up. "Of course I would!"

Ashitaka sighed. "When will you trust them? I was hoping that you would someday join the villiage... and become my wife."

Okay! That's all I wrote! I wrote this over a year ago and really never intended to post this anywhere. If anybody wants to add to this story, you are most welcome! Thank you]
