Subject: what you need
Mood: achy Music: matchbox twenty's "Downfall"
Aw MAN do I love matchbox twenty's new album!!! I wrote a review for it today, both a shortened one for Amazon.com, and one to email out to people. You know, I'll just repost that here, if it lets me:
Review of “More Than You Think You Are”, matchbox twenty’s new album:
[A/N: This won’t be as well written as Justin’s play-by-play of “Mad Season”]
A’ight, baby! Here we’ve got matchbox twenty’s new album, “More Than You Think You Are”. First off, ya gotta love the title! As soon as I heard it, I knew this album was going to have to rock! It’s off-beat – in the tradition of a matchbox twenty album title – and, like Rob Thomas’s lyrics, is something to think about sometime when you’re stuck somewhere without the tunes, something that you find your mind obsessing and turning over in your head, trying to figure out every nuance of meaning.
This album is all over the place. At times it’s country-ish, sometimes all out rock, bluesy in spots, and some of it’s old school Matchbox 20 and Tabitha’s Secret. The variety of instruments they use gives each song its own flavour. They’ve got a mellatron in a few songs, a synth, clavinet… even a choir at one point! Maybe I shouldn’t say that, because when I first heard the choir, I was FLOORED!!! Folksy, down to earth lyrics about every day life that make so freakin much sense, but with that rock flare and coolness that makes matchbox twenty rock.
Okay, enough with the intro!
1. Feel – Written by Rob, Paul Doucette (drummer), AND Kyle Cook (lead guitarist). How cool is that? Don’t ask me why, but for some odd reason, the sound to this song reminds me of my cousins’ band. It has a progressive rock feel to it that you don’t get anywhere else on the album, at least not in my opinion. It’s harder than some of the other songs, with heavy guitar. The song just rips through the stereo, an excellent choice for the first song of an album. I love the lyrics in the verses – classic Rob Thomas wit that gets you smirking and nodding. At times though, it’s hard to tell what he’s staying. For instance, I didn’t know he said “crawl space” until I read the lyrics. I really like this song! It’s almost taunting. Like “Ha! Look how much you screwed up!” Sounds to me like the person he’s singing to was all self-righteous before they fell on their keestah, and he’s getting a little vindictive, rubbing it in their face.
WHAT YOU WANT
WHAT YOU GOT
LIVE YOU LIFE IN A CRAWLSPACE
HELP YOU OUT
BUT YOU DON'T
WANT A CHANCE AT A BETTER LIFE
YOU SAID YOU NEVER TOOK A RIDE
AND NOW YOU WANNA PLAY
WELL IT'S A BIG BIG CITY
LET ME SHOW YOU AROUND
SOMETIME
AND NOW
YOU CROSSED THAT LINE
YOU CAN'T COME BACK
TELL ME HOW DOES IT FEEL NOW
TOO LATE
TOO MUCH TO FORGET ABOUT
CAN'T STOP NOW
TELL ME HOW DOES IT FEEL NOW
I'M ONLY ASKING
BECAUSE I WANNA KNOW
HOW YOU WANNA FEEL
I'M A WRECK
I'M A MESS
I'M A SPOT ON THE PAVEMENT
I'M A NUMBER ON THE WALL
I'LL MAKE YOU SOUL TIRED
I DON'T THINK I LIKE THIS GAME
NO MORE
IT GOES AROUND AND ROUND AND ROUND
YOU TAKE IT ONE MORE TIME
ONE MORE TIME
2. Disease – Ah, yes! The first single! The lyrics aren’t as strong as in other songs but, as Rob Thomas says himself, this song is a rump shaker! Lyrics that do jump out at me are: “You left a stain, on every one of my good days”. I also like “Every little thing you do is tragic”. It just sounds so melodramatic. This song is charged with energy and could probably get the squarest of stiffs to play a little air guitar. Mick Jagger actually wrote this with Rob, which is kinda funny to me.
FEELS LIKE YOU MADE A MISTAKE
YOU MADE SOMEBODY'S HEART BREAK
BUT NOW I HAVE TO LET YOU GO
I HAVE TO LET YOU GO
YOU LEFT A STAIN
ON EVERY ONE OF MY GOOD DAYS
BUT I AM STRONGER THAN YOU KNOW
I HAVE TO LET YOU GO
NO ONE'S EVER TURNED YOU OVER
NO ONE'S TRIED
TO EVER LET YOU DOWN
BEAUTIFUL GIRL-BLESS YOUR HEART
I GOT A DISEASE
DEEP INSIDE ME
MAKES ME FEEL UNEASY
I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT YOU, TELL ME
WHAT AM I S'POSED TO DO ABOUT IT
KEEP YOUR DISTANCE FROM IT
DON'T PAY NO ATTENTION TO ME
I GOT A DISEASE
FEELS LIKE YOU'RE MAKING A MESS
YOU'RE HELL ON WHEELS IN A BLACK DRESS
YOU DROVE ME TO THE FIRE
AND LEFT ME THERE TO BURN
EVERY LITTLE THING YOU DO IS TRAGIC
ALL MY LIFE BEFORE WAS MAGIC
BEAUTIFUL GIRL-I CAN'T BREATHE
I GOT A DISEASE
DEEP INSIDE ME
MAKES ME FEEL UNEASY
I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT YOU, TELL ME
WHAT AM I S'POSED TO DO ABOUT IT
KEEP YOUR DISTANCE FROM IT
DON'T PAY NO ATTENTION TO ME
I GOT A DISEASE
I THINK THAT I'M SICK
BUT LEAVE ME BE
WHILE MY WORLD IS COMING DOWN ON ME
YOU TASE LIKE HONEY, HONEY
TELL ME CAN I BE YOUR HONEYBEE
BE STRONG
KEEP TELLING MYSELF
THAT IT WON'T TAKE LONG 'TILL
I'M FREE OF MY DISEASE
I GOT A DISEASE
DEEP INSIDE ME
MAKES ME FEEL UNEASY
I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT YOU, TELL ME
WHAT AM I S'POSED TO DO ABOUT IT
KEEP YOUR DISTANCE FROM IT
DON'T PAY NO ATTENTION TO ME
I GOT A DISEASE
I THINK THAT I'M SICK
BUT LEAVE ME BE
WHILE MY WORLD IS COMING DOWN ON ME
YOU TASE LIKE HONEY, HONEY
TELL ME CAN I BE YOUR HONEYBEE
BE STRONG
KEEP TELLING MYSELF
THAT IT WON'T TAKE LONG 'TIL
I'M FREE OF MY DISEASE
3. Bright Lights – Rob wrote this one all by his one-sees. This song has an older matchbox flavour to it, akin to “3 AM”, “Hang”, and “Rest Stop”. It has a lot of Rob’s youth in it. It sounds like he’s talking about this girl starting out on the trip that he took when he was younger, and how he’s seeing it all cycle around again when he watches her. Maybe he knows somebody who’s looking for adventure like he had when he was in his late teens. Perhaps this is just about his past. There’s no doubt in my mind that he was thinking about that time in his life when he wrote this, in some way or another. I think he’s talking to himself when he asks who’s supposed to save him “when all your love is gone”. LOVE the line “Took all except my name”. This is one of the songs that has more of a folksy feel to it. I consider this one of the best songs on the album.
SHE GOT OUT OF TOWN
ON A RAILWAY NEW YORK BOUND
TOOK ALL EXCEPT MY NAME
ANOTHER ALIEN ON BROADWAY
THERE'S SOME THINGS IN THIS WORLD
YOU JUST CAN'T CHANGE
SOME THINGS YOU CAN'T SEE
UNTIL IT GETS TOO LATE
BABY, BABY, BABY
WHEN ALL YOUR LOVE IS GONE
WHO WILL SAVE ME
FROM ALL I'M UP AGAINST OUT IN THIS WORLD
MAYBE, MAYBE, MAYBE
YOU'LL FIND SOMETHING
THAT'S ENOUGH TO PLEASE YOU
BUT IF THE BRIGHT LIGHTS DON'T RECEIVE YOU
YOU CAN TURN YOURSELF AROUND
AND COME ON HOME
I GOT A HOLE IN ME NOW
I GOT A SCAR I CAN TALK ABOUT
SHE KEEPS A PICTURE OF ME
IN HER APARTMENT IN THE CITY
SOME THINGS IN THIS WORLD
THEY DON'T MAKE SENSE
SOME THINGS YOU DON'T NEED
UNTIL THEY LEAVE YOU
AND THEY'RE THINGS THAT YOU MISS
(CHORUS)
LET THAT CITY TAKE YOU IN
LET THAT CITY SPIT YOU OUT
LET THAT CITY TAKE YOU DOWN
FOR GOD'S SAKE TURN AROUND
4. Unwell – LOVE THIS SONG!!! It’s realising that pieces of your life are unraveling, and that you might be a little bizarre, but that you’re in touch with that and you’re still getting along. You’re just a little impaired. The first verse kicks serious butt!!! I have SOOO been there! Laying around, talking to yourself when you know you’re supposed to get up but don’t feel like it. The only thing that ever gets you up is that maybe, just maybe, things’ll be different today. BEEN THERE!!! Rob knows how to write it just right too! He wrote this whole song. This song is also about seeing that you’re changing. It’s kinda like you have to document what you’re like now so that somebody can compare you with that sketch later on, when you’re really out of it. I can’t pick favourite lyrics from this song, because it’s the whole freakin song!!!
ALL DAY
STARING AT THE CEILING MAKING
FRIENDS WITH SHADOWS ON MY WALL
ALL NIGHT
I'M HEARING VOICES TELLING ME
THAT I SHOULD GET SOME SLEEP
BECAUSE TOMORROW MIGHT BE GOOD
FOR SOMETHING
HOLD ON
I'M FEELING LIKE I'M HEADED FOR A
BREAKDOWN
I DON'T KNOW WHY
I'M NOT CRAZY I'M JUST A LITTLE UNWELL
I KNOW RIGHT NOW YOU CAN'T TELL
BUT STAY AWHILE AND MAYBE THEN YOU'LL SEE
A DIFFERENT SIDE OF ME
I'M NOT CRAZY I'M JUST A LITTLE IMPAIRED
I KNOW RIGHT NOW YOU DON'T CARE
BUT SOON ENOUGH YOU'RE GONNA THINK OF ME
AND HOW I USED TO BE
SEE ME
TALKING TO MYSELF IN PUBLIC
AND DODGING GLANCES ON THE TRAIN
I KNOW
I KNOW THEY'VE ALL BEEN TALKING 'BOUT ME
I CAN HEAR THEM WHISPER
AND IT MAKES ME THINK THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG
WITH ME
OUT OF ALL THE HOURS THINKING
SOMEHOW
I'VE LOST MY MIND
(CHORUS)
TALKING IN MY SLEEP
PRETTY SOON THEY'LL COME TO GET ME
THEY'LL BE TAKING ME AWAY
5. Cold – Rob wrote this with Matt Serletic, matchbox twenty’s producer. Matt is also the one responsible for getting the band a contract. Unfortunately, I don’t think this song’s as strong as their others. It’s hard to understand the lyrics at times, and the lyrics themselves aren’t as incredible as ones from the rest of the album. It’s a good song though.
I WILL DO WITHOUT
THE SPACES IN BETWEEN
IF YOU CAN TELL ME NOW
WHAT IT MEANS TO BE
YOU HAVE BEEN FOUND OUT
I HAVE BEEN DECEIVED
BY THE ONE THAT I NEED
TELL ME WHY YOU GOTTA BE SO COLD
HOW'D YOU GET SO HIGH
WHY YOU KEEPING ME LOW
YOU DON'T KNOW
TELL ME HOW WE'RE GONNA MAKE IT LAST
YOU'RE READY TO FLY
I'M READY TO CRASH
DON'T GO
YOU WILL GO WITHOUT
THE BETTER PART OF ME
THERE WILL BE NO DOUBT
WHAT THIS ALL COULD MEAN
YOU WILL BE FOUND OUT
I CAN NOT BELIEVE
IN THE ONE THAT I NEED
(CHORUS)
TELL ME WHY YOU GOTTA BE SO COLD
TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT YOU I DON'T KNOW
6. All I Need – Rob wrote this one solo. Second verse it what really makes this song rock. And, um… I don’t know what else to write about this one. Yipes!
EVERYWHERE SOMEONE'S GETTING OVER
EVERYBODY CRIES AND SOMETIMES
YOU CAN STILL LOSE EVEN IF YOU REALLY TRY
TALKING 'BOUT THE DREAM LIKE THE DREAM IS OVER
TALK LIKE THAT WON'T GET YOU NOWHERE
EVERYBODY'S TRUSTING IN THE HEART
LIKE THE HEART DON'T LIE
BUT THAT'S ALL THAT I NEED
SOMEONE ELSE TO CLING TO
SOMEONE I CAN LEAN ON UNTIL
I DON'T NEED TO
JUST STAY ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT
AND IN THE MORNING LET ME DOWN
CUZ THAT'S ALL THAT I NEED RIGHT NOW
EVERYWHERE SOMEONE'S GETTING OVER
EVERYBODY'S LIED TO SOMEONE
PEOPLE STILL USE OTHER PEOPLE
WITH A CROOKED SMILE
ALL AROUND THE WORLD
THERE'S A SINKING FEELING
SOMEWHERE RIGHT NOW
SOMEONE'S REALLY
DOWN ON THEMSELVES
AND DON'T KNOW WHY
AND THAT'S ALL THAT I NEED
SOMEONE ELSE TO CLING TO
SOMEONE I CAN LEAN ON UNTIL
I DON'T NEED TO
JUST STAY ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT
AND IN THE MORNING LET ME DOWN
CUZ THAT'S ALL THAT I NEED RIGHT NOW
LIFE AIN'T NO
BEAUTY SHOW
WE DON'T KNOW WHERE TOMORROW ENDS
AND WHEN WE'RE SAD
IT'S KIND OF A DRAG
(CHORUS)
7. Hand Me Down – Another song that has that classic matchbox twenty sound. The first verse flows along and builds, each line sharper as it progresses. The second verse does the same thing, each line increasingly more poignant. The chorus is catchier – the song in general is catchier – than some of the other material on the album. The tune is soft, and it’s got piano in it. It’s a mellow song that’s as soothing as a good cry on a good friend’s shoulder. Another song among the best on the album. It’s possible this one will become a single. It has a pop sensibility to it.
SOMEDAY THEY'LL FIND OUR SMALL TOWN WORLD
ON A BIG TOWN AVENUE
GONNA MAKE YOU LIKE THE WAY THEY TALK
WHEN THEY'RE TALKING TO YOU
GONNA MAKE YOU BREAK OUT OF YOUR SHELL
CUZ THEY TELL YOU TO
GONNA MAKE YOU LIKE THE WAY THEY LIE
BETTER THAN THE TRUTH
THEY'LL TELL YOU EVERYTHING
YOU WANTED SOMEONE ELSE SAY
THEY'RE GONNA BREAK YOUR HEART
FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN
YOU'RE JUST ONE MORE HAND ME DOWN
BUT NO ONE'S TRIED TO GIVE YOU
WHAT YOU NEED
LAY ALL YOUR TROUBLES DOWN
I AM WITH YOU NOW
SOMEBODY OUGHTA TAKE YOU IN
TRY MAKE YOU LOVE AGAIN
TRY TO MAKE YOU LIKE THE WAY THEY FEEL
WHEN THEY'RE UNDER YOUR SKIN
NEVER ONCE DO YOU THINK THAT THEY WOULD LIE
WHEN THEY'RE HOLDING YOU
THEN YOU WONDER WHY THEY HAVEN'T CALLED
WHEN THEY SAID THEY'D CALL YOU
YOU'LL START TO WONDER
IF YOU'RE EVER GONNA MAKE IT BY
YOU'LL START TO THINK
YOU WERE BORN BLIND
(CHORUS)
I'M HERE FOR THE HARD TIMES
THE STRAIGHT TO YOUR HEART TIMES
WHEN LIVING AIN'T EASY
YOU CAN STAND UP AGAINST ME
WHATEVER MAY FALL ON YOU
CALL ON ME
SOMEDAY THEY'LL OPEN UP YOUR WORLD
SHAKE YOU DOWN TO THE VERY CORE
THEY'LL DO THEIR BEST TO CHANGE YOU
TRYING TO ERASE YOU
8. Could I Be You – MAN is this song laced in jealousy! He’s just sitting there, wondering why the heck some people are so successful and happy all the time. Lyrics, again, are strong on this track. Paul wrote this song by himself and, the way that Rob and Paul fight all the time when they’re recording, you have to wonder if Paul was writing it about Rob. And how ironic it is to have Rob up there singing the thing, while Paul’s back there, beating the crap out of the drums. The second verse is my favourite. But MAN that bridge! It’s like Paul’s in the middle of the song and goes, you know what, I can’t describe what I’m feeling after all. You can almost see him crumpling up the page, tossing it and storming off to go have a cigarette outside. This song has bite, and it rocks!
SOMETHING IS WRONG
WITH THE SUM OF US
THAT I CAN'T SEEM TO ERASE
HOW CAN I BE
THE ONLY ONE
WITHOUT A SMILE ON MY FACE
WHEN NOW
YOU'RE LAUGHING OUT LOUD
AT JUST THE THOUGHT OF BEING ALIVE
AND I WAS WONDERING
COULD I JUST BE YOU TONIGHT
YOU SHOW YOUR PAIN
LIKE IT REALLY HURTS
AND I CAN'T EVEN
START TO FEEL MINE
AND I'M STANDING IN PLACE
WITH MY HEAD FIRST
AND I SHAKE I SHAKE I SHAKE
AND I SEE YOUR PROGRESS
STRETCHED OUT FOR MILES
AND MILES
AND YOU'RE LAUGHING OUT LOUD
AT JUST THE THOUGHT OF BEING ALIVE
AND I WAS WONDERING
COULD I JUST BE YOU TONIGHT
THIS IS THE SOUND THAT I MAKE
THESE ARE THE WORDS I CHOSE
BUT SOMEHOW THE RIGHT THING TO SAY
JUST WON'T COME OUT
CUZ YOU'RE LAUGHING OUT LOUD
AT JUST THE THOUGHT OF BEING ALIVE
AND I WAS WONDERING
COULD I JUST BE YOU TONIGIHT
I WAS WONDERING
COULD I JUST BE YOU
TONIGHT
9. Downfall – This song is VERY powerful and moving! It’s funny how it starts in. The song that Paul pens ends with the words “And I was wondering, could I just be you tonight”, then this next song, which Rob wrote, starts “I wonder how you sleep…” And, the way that it starts, Rob’s vocals overlap the end of the previous track. It’s kinda interesting if you think about it. In a way, Rob cut off Paul’s song by coming in with his next one on the tail end there. The chorus here is strong, and Rob sings it with such passion. When the choir comes in… WOW! CANNOT describe how I felt when I first heard it! I love the lines in the chorus “Be my saviour, and I will be your downfall”. This is a song I’m going to have to think about for a while to sort out its meaning. It gets stuck in your head easily. It has an ethereal sound to it. And, of course, parts of it have a gospel hymn feel. LOVE THIS SONG!!!
I WONDER HOW YOU SLEEP
I WONDER WHAT YOU THINK OF ME
IF I COULD GO BACK
WOULD YOU HAVE EVER BEEN WITH ME
I WANT YOU TO BE UNEASED
I WANT YOU TO REMEMBER
I WANT YOU TO BELIEVE IN ME
I WANT YOU ON MY SIDE
COME ON
LAY IT DOWN
I'VE ALWAYS BEEN WITH YOU
HERE AND NOW
GIVE ALL THAT'S WITHIN YOU
BE MY SAVIOR
AND I'LL BE YOUR DOWNFALL
HERE WE GO AGAIN
ASHAMED OF BEING BROKEN IN
GETTING OFF TRACK
I WANT TO GET YOU BACK AGAIN
I WANT YOU TO TROUBLE ME
I WANTED YOU TO LINGER
I WANT YOU TO AGREE WITH ME
I WANT SO MUCH SO BAD
COME ON
ONLY LOVE CAN SAVE US NOW
LOVE SAVE ME NOW
10. Soul –Kyle, Paul, and Rob wrote this one. Kyle’s name is listed first this time, so I wonder if he wrote the bulk of this one. It does have more of a bluesy feel, and Kyle is the most R & B of the band. He’s the most interested in it, and it shows in his skills as the lead guitarist. This song is singing the blues! It’s cathartic. This song’s cool.
HANG OUT YOUR WINDOW
OVER MY HEAD
STARE AT YOUR FEELINGS
TO SEE WHERE THEY END
YOU'RE WAITING HERE
FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO BREAK YOU
FROM THE INSIDE
YOU'VE BEEN SO COMPOSED
BUT WE ALL KNOW THERE'S
ALWAYS SOMETHING
TEARING YOU APART
ALWAYS SO MUCH LONGER
THAN YOU COUNTED ON
IT HITS YOU SO MUCH HARDER
THAN YOU THOUGHT
BUT YOU DON'T WORRY
DON'T WORRY
CUZ YOU GOT SOUL
YOU'RE SO HEAVY
YOU'RE SO MISUNDERSTOOD
I SPENT ALL MY WISHES
WISHING TIMES WERE GOOD
WHEN I STILL COULD
WAIT AROUND HERE
FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO TAKE ME
PAST THE GOOD SIDE
AT IT FOR SO LONG
YOU DON'T SHOW THERE'S
ALWAYS SOMETHING TEARING YOU APART
11. You’re So Real – This one, Rob wrote. It’s a little quirky. The way he says, “Cause that’s you, baby!” The song is very upbeat and piano heavy. I likie!
YES I AM
I HOPE YOU THINK YOU READ ME
HOPE I START TALKING CRAZY
BEFORE YOU UNDERSTAND ME
ARE WE THROUGH
YOU THINK THAT I'M BENEATH YOU
BUT YOU LIKE THE THINGS THAT I DO
WELL WRAP EM UP AND TAKE EM WITH YOU
I'M ALRIGHT
HOPE I CAN SLEEP FOR ONE NIGHT
IF NOT TO COOL MY INSIDES
MAYBE TO CALM MY BACKSIDE
SHAME ON ME
RAIN ON ME
I GOT A WEAKNESS IN ME
I THINK THAT WEAKNESS FEEDS ME
I DON'T THINK YOU THINK YOU NEED ME
SUNSHINE
YOU'RE THE BEST TIME
I EVER, EVER HAD
BUT I THINK I MADE YOU FEEL BAD
THE BLACK FLY ON YOUR NECKTIE
BUT WHEN THE SUN STARTS SINKING
ON YOUR BEAUTIFUL SOUL
MAKE YOU CRY, CRY BABY
MAKE YOU FEEL SO COLD
DON'T YOU KNOW IT'S ALL RIGHT
SOMETIMES
YOU JUST GOT TO SHOW HOW YOU FEEL
CUZ THAT'S YOU BABY
YEAH, YOU'RE SO REAL
RUN IT ROUND IN YOUR HEAD
LIKE YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT'S ON THE INSIDE
YOU DON'T KNOW ME TOO WELL
YOU AIN'T SEEN MY BAD SIDE
SHAME ON ME
SHAME ON THE THINGS THAT I'D BE
IF YOU COULD COMPLICATE ME
IF YOU COULD GET INSIDE ME
SUNSHINE
YOU'RE THE BEST TIME
I'VE EVER, EVER KNOWN
WHEN YOU'VE GOT YOUR WICKED SMILE ON
BUT I'VE CRIED
FOR THE LAST TIME
I'M DRYING INSIDE
AND YOU ALWAYS KNOW JUST WHO YOU ARE
YOU NEVER NEEDED SOMEONE ELSE
TO REALIZE YOURSELF I'M ALL RIGHT
HOPE I CAN
12. The Difference – This song is somber, and probably the most reminiscent of the title of the album. Some of the lyrics here are confusing. I’m still forming my opinion of this song. Rob wrote it.
SLOW DANCING
ON THE BOULEVARD
IN THE QUIET MOMENTS
WHILE THE CITY'S STILL DARK
SLEEPWALKING THROUGH THE SUMMER RAIN
IN THE TIRED SPACES
YOU COULD HEAR HER NAME
WHEN SHE WAS WARM AND TENDER AND YOU
PULLED HER ARMS AROUND YOU
THERE WAS NOTHING BUT HER
LOVE AND AFFECTION SHE WAS
CRAZY FOR YOU NOW SHE'S
PART OF SOMETHING THAT YOU LOST
AND FOR ALL YOU KNOW
THIS COULD BE
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WHAT YOU NEED
AND WHAT YOU WANT TO BE
NIGHT SWIMMING
IN HER DIAMOND DRESS
MAKING SMALL CIRCLES
MOVE ACROSS THE SURFACE
STAND WATCHING
FROM THE STEADY SHORE
LAYING WIDE OPEN
AND WAITING FOR
SOMETHING WARM AND TENDER WHILE SHE'S
MOVING FURTHER FROM YOU
THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD
MAKE IT EASY ON YOU
EVERY STEP YOU TAKE REMINDS YOU
THAT SHE'S WALKING ON
EVERY WORD YOU NEVER SAID
ECHOES DOWN YOUR EMPTY HALLWAY
EVERYTHING THAT WAS YOUR WORLD
JUST CAME DOWN
IT JUST CAME DOWN
DAY BREAKING ON THE BOULEVARD
FEEL THE
SUN WARMING UP YOUR SECONDHAND HEART
LIGHT SWIMMING RIGHT ACROSS YOUR FACE
YOU THINK
MAYBE SOMEDAY
MAYBE SOMEDAY
12b. So Sad So Lonely – EXCELLENT driving song. It’s got an upbeat tune, but the lyrics sting. It’s like reveling in your miseries. The only way to get to it is to wait a few seconds after “The Difference” ends. It reminds me of the “nobody likes me, everybody hates me” song. Fun one to sing along to.
I FOUND OUT
ON A LATE NIGHT DRIVE
IN MY WINTER COAT
WITH MY BLOOD-SHOT EYES
MY FAITH AIN'T BEEN
NO FRIEND TO ME
AND THE WAY I SIN
IS HANGING OFF OF ME
AND I'M SORRY
YOU CAN'T TAKE ME ANYWHERE
PRETTY SOON WE'RE ALMOST THERE
BABY, ONE MORE NIGHT
IT'S BEEN A LONG, LONG DRIVE
AND I'M WAY, WAY TIRED
I DON'T NEED NO
BACK-UP PLAN
(CHORUS)
I DON'T WANT NOBODY
NOBODY DON'T WANT ME
I'M SO SAD SO LONELY
BUT I'M ALWAYS LANDING ON MY FEET
ONE MORE TIME
WITH A SAD, SAD SMILE
AND YOUR WHITE BREAD FRIENDS
IN THE CIRCUS LIFE
ALL THE ONE-WAY RIDES
THE SWEET BEGINNERS
PASSING ON THE LEFT-HAND SIDE
WITH A SIDEWAYS SMILE
AND I'M ALWAYS
ONE STEP FROM STALLING
BAD TRIPS CAN MAKE GREAT STORIES
DANCE ALL NIGHT
WITH YOUR ASS ON FIRE
AND YOUR HANDS UP HIGH
AND FEEL ME ONE MORE TIME
(CHORUS)
I LEARN TO LOVE MYSELF
AND I DON'T NEED NO ONE ELSE
AND WHEN A LOVE MOVES ON
CUZ IT GETS COLD
THEN ANOTHER MOVES IN
AND IT CAN FILL THE HOLE
I'M ONE MORE
HOPEFUL LYING ON THE BEDROOM FLOOR
NO SENSE TRYING
WHEN THE WHOLE THING DROPS
YOU LOSE YOUR NERVE
I HOPE YOU GET WHAT YOU DESERVE
(CHORUS)
So that’s my crappy little review of the album. The album really does rock though, SO GO BUY IT!!!
