16 June 2007
Michael Waltrip Racing's David Reutimann finished 16th in the Meijer 300, tonight's Busch Series race at Kentucky Speedway. His #99 Aaron's Dream Machine enjoyed 82 laps in the top ten before he got wrapped up in an incident where Steve Wallace wrecked the race leader at the time, Carl Edwards.
Pole-sitter Regan Smith led the field to the green falg at 8:48pm ET; David started 14th. Kelly Bires went up the track and turned Richard Johns' #25, drawing the yellow flag.
At the time of the first caution on lap 2, David was in 15th. He had lost a spot to Shane Huffman.
Racing resumed on lap 4 with Smith still in the lead. The second caution came out one lap later when Morgan Shepherd spun and hit the wall; Kyle Krisiloff put him there. Richard Johns received the free pass. David was 14th, having passed Kertus Davis.
Lap 10 saw the restart. Four laps into the run, David got around Huffman for 13th, and he passed Danny O'Quinn the next time around the track.
The yellow flag waved for the third time on lap 16 for Mike Wallace. His #7 snapped loose on its own and spun.
Smith led the lap 20 restart, but Carl Edwards immediately passed him for the top spot. Meanwhile, David worked on moving up through the ranks. Getting around Cale Gale on lap 22 advanced him to 11th.
On lap 38, Smith got around Edwards along the inside and reclaimed the lead. David lost a spot to Dave Blaney nine laps later. Mike Bliss moved him back to 13th on lap 51; however, David took 12th from David Ragan on lap 60.
Green flag stops began on lap 63 with race leader Smith. Others followed suit, but Edwards stayed on track and took over the lead. David was up to 8th. Edwards pit on lap 67 at the same time the #99 did; Brad Coleman moved into the lead. Bires led on lap 69 while most everyone else had made stops. David was 22nd and lapped. Bires' pit on lap 73 gave David Stremme the lead, and when he came in two laps later, Kevin Hamlin took over the top spot. He stopped the next time around the track, and Todd Kluever took the lead.
On lap 79, Edwards passed Coleman for the lead. David was now 11th. He passed Aric Almirola and Kyle Krisiloff and broke into the top 10 two laps later. Lap 86 saw him move into 8th.
The fourth caution was on lap 91. O'Quinn Jr got loose under Johns, washed up the track, and hit the wall. Timothy Peters received the free pass. Leaders pit under yellow. David's #99 had been tight all night, but the adjustment during this stop freed up the car.
Racing resumed on lap 96 with Edwards leading and David running 7th. The yellow flag waved moments later on lap 98.
NASCAR brought out the fifth caution when Krisiloff drifted up into AJ Frank, who got into Bobby Hamilton Jr as the trio went three-wide. Franks and Hamilton Jr's car sustained the most damage. Kevin Hamlin received the free pass.
The pace car headed for pit road on lap 105, and Edwards let the field to green. David was 6th. One lap into the run, Edwards climbed the track and allowed Greg Biffle's lapped #37 to pass. Meanwhile, David got around Marcus Ambrose and Brad Coleman for 4th. Passing Yeley on lap 110 moved him into 3rd. David was reporting on lap 126 that the Aaron's Dream Machine was tight again.
On lap 150, Coleman got around David and dropped him to 4th.
The yellow flag waved for the sixth time on lap 152 for debris in Turn 3. Kevin Hamlin received the free pass. Cars pit under caution. The #99 team put a rubber in right rear. David said he knew the adjustment would take more time but they weren't going to win anyway, according to an ESPN2 pit report.
Edwards led the lap 155 restart with David in 6th. As the field retook the green flag, Steven Wallace ran into Edwards and ran him into the wall. The #60 went to the garage as the seventh yellow flag waved.
The green flag returned on lap 161. David was 17th after he apparently pit. Three laps into the run, he was 20th.
The eighth caution was on lap 165 when Regan Smith got loose on the top of the race track. Wallace went flying through the grass after him.
Racing resumed on lap 170. Coleman led, and David was 19th. Passing Kevin Hamlin three laps into the run gained the #99 a spot. David got around Chase Miller two laps later for 17th.
The yellow flag waved for the ninth time on lap 176 for Robert Richardson Jr. He lost his car and rear-ended the wall.
Coleman led the restart with sixteen laps to go and David in 17th. Scott Wimmer dropped inside and ran side-by-side for the race lead. Wimmer slid back, and Stephen Leicht passed him.
Leicht took the lead on lap 189. Two laps later, David picked up 16th from Timothy Peters. Leicht's #90 went on to win while David finished in the 16th position.
