He was the 20th of 48 drivers on the track, and completed his best lap in 48.874 seconds at 184.147 MPH. His #55 Napa Dodge was 0.524 seconds behind pole-winner Boris Said. Mikey ranked 39th in both practice sessions. He turned a 49.018-second lap at 183.606 MPH in the first, which was 1.360 seconds behind Tony Stewart. In the second, he was 1.534 seconds behind Joe Nemechek with a 48.880-second lap at 184.124 MPH.
