/noticias.info/ MOORESVILLE, N.C. - David Reutimann registered Michael Waltrip Racing’s and his best NASCAR Busch Series finish this season in No. 99 Aaron’s Dream Machine after finishing sixth at Nashville Superspeedway Saturday night.
“All in all, it was a pretty good finish for us,” Reutimann said, who was awarded the Command Performance Driver of the Race. “We were pretty good in practice, but we didn’t qualify that great. Once the race started, we stayed consistent. We kept bringing in the Aaron’s Dream Machine to work on it. We were good on the long runs. Fortunately, there were a few of those that enabled us to make up some ground.”
Reutimann started the 225-lap event in 16th-place. After advancing into the top-15 at Lap 11, the Zephyrhills (Fla.) native maintained his stride the first half of the race. At Lap 157, Reutimann moved up into the top-10 and was a mainstay. With 30 laps remaining, the No. 99 Aaron’s Dream Machine was in seventh-place and closing on the top-five competitors.
“We were trying our best to finish in the top-five for Aaron’s,” Reutimann stated. “The Michael Waltrip Racing team made several changes throughout the race to try to improve the handling of the car. We needed to rotate better in the center. The guys made track bar and air pressure adjustments throughout the race. When we were running 10th around Lap 157 and trying to move forward, the car was very tight. We pitted about 13 laps later and made some more adjustments.”
On Lap 214, Reutimann surpassed 2002 NASCAR Busch Series champion and 18-time winner Greg Biffle for sixth-place. Reutimann went on to finish sixth and gained two positions in the NASCAR Busch Series owner’s championship points standings for Michael Waltrip Racing.
“With 10 to go we were sixth and we just ran out of time,” Reutimann said. “I think if we would’ve had a few more laps, we could have passed the No. 11 car for fifth-place. It was a good run for Aaron’s and it moved the team up to 18th in the owner’s standings. I’m looking forward to running some more Busch races. I wish I could run in the Series every week on top of racing my No. 17 Team Tundra Racing Toyota.”
There’s no rest for Reutimann as he travels to Michigan International Speedway this weekend for the Con-way Freight 200. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series regular would like to pull double duty again this weekend, but the schedule is not in his favor.
“I want to run the Aaron’s Dream Machine at Kentucky Speedway badly, but the race is on the same day as our NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event,” Reutimann exclaimed. “Since the Busch race is only a few hours after our race, I don’t think there is enough time to travel from Michigan to Kentucky. Believe me, I’ve been trying to find a way to pull it off. I’m looking for suggestions.”
Reutimann enters Michigan after posting a fourth-place finish in the most recent NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. Currently third (115 points from Todd Bodine in first-place) in the championship points standings, Reutimann looks to add a victory to his two Bud Pole Awards, five top-five and eight top-10 finishes.
“We’re in a really good position entering Michigan,” Reutimann exclaimed, who finished eighth at Michigan last year. “I’m looking forward to going there because it is a multi-groove place where you can run on the top or the bottom. We had a good run there last year and finished in the top-10. We learned a lot and I think it’s going to be another good place for us.”
