FORT WORTH, Texas (June 5, 2006) – After recording a top-five finish at Dover International Speedway, David Reutimann competes in both the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway and the NASCAR Busch Series race at Nashville Superspeedway this weekend.
“After I race the No. 17 Team Tundra Racing Toyota at Texas, the team is going to drop me off in Nashville on their way home so that I can run the No. 99 Aaron’s Dream Machine for Michael Waltrip Racing,” Reutimann said. “I’m really looking forward to going to Nashville, where I got my first truck win. I love working with my guys at Darrell Waltrip Motorsports and the guys at Michael Waltrip Racing. We’ve got a great group between the two teams. I’m really lucky to have the opportunity to work with all of them. I’m hoping to get a good finish for Toyota at Texas and one for Aaron’s at Nashville.”
First up is Texas, which is a track that has been bittersweet for Reutimann. The No. 17 Team Tundra Racing Toyota driver’s best finish at the 1.5-mile tri-oval is third, which occurred in June 2004. Last season, Reutimann finished fifth in October. One year earlier, the Florida native was involved in an unforgettable accident.
“Our first time at Texas in 2004, we finished third and then in October we were involved in a horrible accident,” Reutimann stated. “It’s something I’d like to forget. Last season, we finished 10th in June and fifth later in the year. We’ve had good runs at Texas and I feel like we can keep our momentum going this weekend.”
In eight NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series starts this season, Reutimann has recorded two Bud Pole Awards (California Speedway and Dover International Speedway), four top-five, seven top-10 finishes and is third in the driver’s championship points standings (111 points from Todd Bodine in first-place). The only thing missing from the equation is a win and the team is close and confident it’s around the corner. The Darrell Waltrip Motorsports team’s first win took place midseason last year at Nashville Superspeedway, where Reutimann will compete in the No. 99 Aaron’s Dream Machine on Saturday.
“I love Nashville Superspeedway and I am glad that Michael (Waltrip) and everyone at Aaron’s are giving me another chance to run the Aaron’s Dream Machine,” Reutimann said, who has one pole award, two top-five and three top-10 finishes in 19 NASCAR Busch Series starts. “I started in the NASCAR Busch Series and I enjoy racing there as much as I do in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. I ran the Busch race at Nashville earlier this year in the No. 99 Cottman Transmission entry. We were involved in an accident and unfortunately we finished 34th.”
In Reutimann’s first NASCAR Busch Series outing at Nashville Superspeedway, the Florida native finished fifth in the No. 87 NEMCO Motorsports entry owned by Joe Nemechek.
“In my first time at Nashville in a Busch car, I finished in the top-five,” Reutimann exclaimed. “I really like the track because I’ve always ran well there. It’s a pretty special place to me. Getting my first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series win there was incredible. My family was there and even DW (Darrell Waltrip) was there to hand me the Gibson guitar when I climbed out the window. It was really a special day.”
