Michael Waltrip's #55 Napa Auto Parts Dodge did not make the field for the Coca-Cola 600, marking the first Cup series DNQ since October of 1998. He did, however, buy the #74 from Derrike Cope and will race that car this weekend. He will not get the owner's points.
He had ranked 50th of 53rd drivers in practice, with a 31.209-second lap at 173.027 MPH that was 1.516 seconds behind session leader Greg Biffle.
Mikey was the 51st driver to take to the track in qualifying. He ranked 47th with a 30.018-second lap at 179.892 MPH, which trailed pole winner Scott Riggs by 1.274 seconds.
His #99 Aaron's Dream Machine will start 35th in the Busch Series' Carquest Auto Parts 300. Mikey was the 46th of 50 drivers to complete time trials, where he ran a 30.198-second lapt at 178.820 MPH. He was 0.852 seconds slower than pole-winner Matt Kenseth.
Mikey ranked 34th and 42nd in first and second practice respectively. He turned a 31.296-second lap at 172.546 MPH in the first, (0.767 seconds behind pace setter Casey Mears), and a 31.365-second lap at 172.166 MPH in the second, (1.098, Mark Martin).
Coverage of the Coca Cola 600 starts May 28th at 5:00pm ET on FOX. The Carquest Auto Parts 300 will start the day before at 7:30pm on FX.
