His Nextel Cup season has been forgettable, but Michael Waltrip can claim at least one SportsCenter-worthy moment in 2006.
While throwing out the first pitch of an Atlanta Braves-Florida Marlins game last week, Waltrip channeled the spirit of Nuke LaLoosh and uncorked a wild toss to Chipper Jones in the Braves dugout.
Waltrip said he hadn't planned to goof off until he got to the mound.
"I thought I can't disrespect the catcher for the Marlins," he said. "But when I got out there, they had a fish behind the plate.
"So I acted like I was going to throw to the fish and threw it to Chipper. Everyone thinks I can't throw. I've got pinpoint accuracy. Chipper said it stung his hand when he caught it."
There are no plans for Waltrip switching careers.
"I learned a long time ago that I needed to excel at something that required me to sit down," he said.
