/noticias.info/ CONCORD, N.C. – Yesterday, Bill Elliott wrapped up testing the No. 00 Burger King car for Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR) at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. At the conclusion of the test session, Crew Chief Larry Carter (LC) answered a few questions.
MWR: Can you provide us with a couple of examples of what you were trying to accomplish during the test?
LC: When we talked to Bill Elliott, I told him we are trying to accomplish a couple of things during the test at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. One is to get the chemistry going with the guys. Second was for Bill to get comfortable in the 00 Burger King car. For example, making sure things like the seat belts and pedals are right.
MWR: Obviously, chemistry between a driver and crew chief is vitally important for a team to be successful. Since this is the first time working with Bill, what was it like interacting with him during the test?
LC: Bill is easy to work with. He gives a lot of good feedback to the team. He’s very professional and carries himself very well.
MWR: The car that you tested, will you run it at Chicagoland?
LC: No. Actually, we plan on building another car for Chicagoland. The car we tested will be used for Loudon (New Hampshire International Speedway).
MWR: What are your goals for the first race in July at Chicagoland?
LC: Our realistic goal is to first go and qualify. We don’t have points. Second, we are wanting a solid run. There are plenty of regular guys that would like to run in the top-20. That gives you an idea of how tough the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series is.
MWR: What are your thoughts on running only five races?
LC: The level of competition is tough on any team and that doesn’t matter who you are. Guys who run only five races don’t have the advantage of the people that are running every week. Like I said before, our plans for the five races are to get our feet wet so that we have all the pieces in place for our 2007 entry with Toyota.
MWR: Overall, was everyone pleased with the test?
LC: Everybody involved was pleased with the way the car drove. We didn’t go there to lay down a super fast lap. We accomplished what we were looking to do.
