Michael Waltrip will start 21st in tomorrow's race. His #55 Napa Auto Parts Dodge was the 32nd of 49 qualifiers to take to the track in qualifying yesterday. He ranked 16th at the time with a 51.492-second lap at 185.971 MPH that was 0.694 seconds behind pole-winner Elliott Sadler.
He ranked 36th and 41st in first and final practice sessions. He turned his best lap in 50.543 seconds at 189.462 MPH in the first, and trailed session leader Joe Nemechek by 0.554 seconds. In happy hour, he was 2.152 seconds behind pace setter Robby Gordon with a 51.477-second lap at 186.025 MPH.
In the Busch Series, Mikey's #99 Aaron's Dream Machine ranked 39th and 16th in first and second practice, (52.865 seconds @ 181.141 MPH, -2.809 seconds / 50.766 s @ 188.630 MPH, -0.498). He qualified 33rd for the Aaron's 312. After going out 15th, he turned a 52.900-second circuit at 181.021 MPH, which was 1.068 seconds behind chart topper JJ Yeley.
