TALLADEGA, Ala. - Nextel Cup driver Michael Waltrip has been busy lining up drivers and crew members for his two Cup and two Busch teams he plans to run next season using Toyota Camrys.
So far, Waltrip said he has lined up Craftsman Truck Series driver David Reutimann to drive one of his Toyota Busch entries next season and is considering upstart Joey Miller for the other.
Waltrip also admitted Friday he had approached former Cup champion Dale Jarrett about driving for one of his Cup teams next season.
Jarrett's current contract with Robert Yates Racing expires at season's end. He has said he wants to race two more years, but that it did not necessarily have to be with Yates.
A team spokesman on Friday confirmed that Jarrett had spoken with Waltrip about driving for Waltrip's organization next season.
"It's been in the media that (Jarrett's) deal is up this year and so, I mean, you ought to be able to figure out that I probably have (talked to him) because how could you not?" Waltrip said.
"He's a champion. He's a friend. I did ask him, but I don't have anything to report on the answer."
Three teams – Michael Waltrip Racing, Bill Davis Racing and Red Bull Racing – plan to field two Cup teams each using Toyotas next season.
