The No. 55 NAPA team headed to Atlanta Motor Speedway determined to improve on a disappointing start to the 2006 season. NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series drivers were provided one practice session before qualifying for Sunday’s 500-mile event. Michael Waltrip piloted the No. 55 NAPA race car around the 1.5-mile oval at a speed of 189.649 mph placing him 24th on the starting grid.
Saturday track activity for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series will include two practice sessions for the Atlanta 500, which can be seen live on FOX on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
Practice
Work began on the No. 55 NAPA race car during two Saturday practice sessions as Michael Waltrip and the NAPA crew prepared for Sunday’s race. The team picked up over a tenth of a second from the first session to Happy Hour. Waltrip completed a lap around the 1.5-mile oval at a speed of 183.856 mph during the Happy Hour session.
