Michael Waltrip started the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 from the 25th position and battled an ill-handling car from the beginning of the event. The No. 55 NAPA team made adjustments throughout the race, but they were unable to stay on the lead lap. Waltrip brought the NAPA race car home in the 35th position.
